About

A numbers guy who only works with the trades.

Clock Out Books does one thing: keeps trade contractors' books clean and shows them which jobs make money, so the owner can actually clock out at the end of the day.

Hi, I'm Kyle Dickerson.

I have an accounting degree, an MBA, and 19 years of accounting experience. I started Clock Out Books because the trades deserve better numbers than they usually get.

Most trade owners I talk to are great at the work. They know a bad compressor by the sound, or a failing water heater by the smell. What they don't have is a clear read on which jobs pay, or a night off from paperwork. The books are behind, the field software doesn't match QuickBooks, and the P&L lumps a full install in with a service call.

That's the gap I fill. Clean books, closed on time, with profit broken out by job and job type. So when you set prices, hire a tech, or push a service plan, you're doing it with real numbers. And you're doing it at the shop, not at the kitchen table at 10pm.

Why only the trades

Because the details matter. Service plans, callbacks, warranty work, seasonal cash swings, equipment costs on installs, subs who need 1099s. HVAC, plumbing, and electrical shops leak margin in the same places. When you only work with the trades, you learn where the money hides. We started with HVAC, and we know each trade's quirks.

How we work

  • Remote. Based in Texas, working with shops nationwide.
  • We look before we touch. The first look is on your screen, with you driving. We never ask for passwords.
  • Plain English. If a number matters, we explain it.
  • A clear price at the end of the free books review, before any paid work starts.

What we don't do

  • Tax filing or tax advice
  • Audits, reviews, or attest work
  • Businesses outside the trades

Clock Out Books is a bookkeeping and financial reporting firm, not a CPA firm. We work alongside whoever files your taxes.
